the location for a graduation and downtown
I felt the rooms were lacking. the Suite was not a suite and the room we stayed in had two chairs and no table! I really didn't like the arrangement of the room at all with the sink outside of the bathroom. Other than that it was ok
The room was large and comfortable.
The complimentary breakfast had small portions but good, the service was very slow every morning we went to breakfast.
The staff was very nice. The room was big enough that we had plenty of room to add a blow-up mattress (that we brought along with us)
We had 3 criteria when picking a hotel. 1) It had to have an indoor pool. We have a very active preschooler and we needed that for his activities. 2) We needed a first floor room. I have ms and we needed to be able to go in a door and get to the room. 3) We needed a free sufficient breakfast. We did not get any of the 3. We got to the hotel, our first floor room smelled incredibly strongly of paint / voc some kind of chemicals. We went to the front desk, were told they were re- sealing the pool, so that is what the smell was. Were offered a different room on the second floor and took it. Needless to say, the pool was out of order 2 of the 3 days we were there. We dealt with a few tantrums from a little boy who we had promised he could swim. The next morning we went to the restaurant. On this site it says free breakfast from the restaurant. We were offered our choice of (I think) 6 different meals. They were all only large enough to fill our preschooler. Our teenager and my husband were still starving after breakfast. And a tip for the waitress was not included, so we had to dig into our pockets for more breakfast and a tip. It isn't the waitress's fault that it was a crummy tiny breakfast. The staff was all very nice, but when I told the front desk clerk about my 3 criteria and how very unhappy we were, she talked to the manager and I was told that since we were still staying in a room, there would be no discount. The breakfast was still breakfast like they advertised (though it sure sounds like it would be a big one and it was not) and the pool was just maintenance they had to do, so it wasn't their fault. We were offered no compensation whatsoever, no offer of a free dinner or extra breakfast, not even an offer to let us out of our reservation for free if we wished to go to a different hotel for the rest of our stay in town. I let them know I would be giving a negative review, though I have never given any restaurant or hotel a negative review in my life.
Okay, so there are double queen rooms, and then there are the double queen rooms at the Magnuson Grand. Our room was HUGE! Incredibly spacious for a hotel room. Think like double the size of a normal double queen room. Maybe we just got lucky, but seriously, it was staggering, the amount of space in the room. The pool and hot tub were both nice. But overall, we really enjoyed our stay.
The breakfast deal they have with the restaurant in the hotel is less than stellar--hardly worth the voucher, but better than nothing, I guess. Also, if you have poor memory, this place might not be for you: lots of twists and turns and weird corridor layouts. Fun for us, but getting lost more than once is a distinct possibility.
Breakfast was good, and the location was central
After mid-night front door is closed
Excellent location for downtown.
Described as hotel but more Motel.Room was on ground floor adjacent to parking lot so opening curtains not practical and room consequently very dark. Airco in swimming pool area set far to cool, took 3 hours to warm body up after swimming. Would not give receipt for payment!
Price,location,large room,breakfast was included
Service one day at breakfast was not very good
I loved this Hotel. Room was large, very clean, beds are very comfortable. The price was well within our budget. The free breakfast was amazing. I liked the fact that there is an on site restaurant. The young women at the front desk was very helpful. Would stay at the Magnuson again if I return to Grand Rapids in the future. I would say of all the Hotels we stayed at on our road trip this was the best. Jo F.
good value. after some time spent in Yellowstone, my daughter appreciated the pool.
The restaurant wasn't opened on Sunday evening around 7 - 8 pm.
It was in a great location close to a very active downtown with lots of fun shopts and restaurants. Liked we were able to walk just 3 or 4 blocks to the downtown area...
Rooms were shabby & the air conditioning did not work which meant we were boiling hot all night & did not sleep. When we asked for a fan we were told the only one they had was already being used by someone else...not impressed!
Its design and decor were very nice...the pool and hot tub area very clean the rooms were clean, and the towels were nice thick towels..
Breakfast did not start until 7am, when it stated the motel served breakfast I assumed inside, not at a restaraunt...For as nice as this place was, they should have gone the distance and invested in much nicer pillows...our group all agreed they would have scored much higher with us had the pillows been a little bigger to fit the bed, and a little more firm....
Clean comfortable rooms. Downtown locatiion great
staff were pleasant but had no idea about where to hire a car, tours facilities in area. NOT good for traveller without a car. Had wifi but could not access in room so had to sit in reception.
Reasonable for a small town hotel when you just need a place to sleep.
Beds seemed a little worn, doubtful they replace em every 4 years.. ..or even every 8..
Free coffee any time
Too hard to get in the hotel late hours (i forgot my key and found it very hard to get someone help me)
